There Is Nothing Wrong With Writing About Sex

Let’s have a decent adult conversation. Yeah, we’re going to talk about sex. Can someone please tell me why it’s wrong to express our sexual desires? Why is it such taboo to write about sex? There is no need to mask our discomfort or pretend to make jokes on every anatomical term. Surely we can deal with this like a grown mature adult. Now we’re onto something.

Writing about sex stirs up so many different reactions from readers everywhere. Almost instinctively that sort of uninhibited expression opens the door for judgment, ridicule, and scorn of one’s creativity. Some people think writing erotica is solely depicting two people who have their sex drive on overload, about to rip each other apart. Is that all there is?

Sex writers get a poor reputation when people associate our creativity with our personal life. We come off as being snobby and cold, trying to prove we’re superior, and therefore seek to compete with others. When shared from the first person point of view, we’re seen as bragging that we’re hotter than the average Jane or had better sex appeal than the next door Joe.

The truth is, most people have less than positive body image and are somehow apprehensive around their sexual expression. I wish…
